Yep, you read that right. We’re in Cairo. Not for vacation, and not just for sightseeing, but because Egypt’s booming residential market is actively looking for something new, something durable, and something with global credibility. We were reached out to by the USDA to introduce Egyptian companies to the U.S. market, and help assist them on how they could tap into American made goods. That’s how we ended up here, standing in the middle of one of the fastest-growing housing markets in the world.
And we’re excited to tell you why.
The Timber Conversation in Egypt
Egypt has a long architectural tradition built on concrete and brick. Wood is typically used for accents, ceilings, or specialty spaces within the home. But that’s changing. A growing market for timber-frame and log homes is emerging, not to replace Egypt’s building style, but to complement it.
With a residential housing surge projected well into the 2030s, Egypt is becoming a major opportunity for U.S. wood product companies. The demand is rising, quality expectations are climbing, and homeowners are hungry for materials that offer warmth, strength, and longevity. That’s where we come in.
Why Gastineau’s Products are Desired in Egypt
Oak is a prized material in Egypt’s housing industry. As the world’s largest distributor of oak log homes, Gastineau Log Homes naturally landed on their radar. But the interest goes beyond the product.
Our Heart and Heritage philosophy resonates deeply with Egyptian culture. They value craftsmanship, legacy, and materials that carry meaning. The idea of a home built with intention, beauty, and durability aligns with traditions woven into their history.
They weren’t just looking for timber. They were looking for a partner who understands the story behind the wood.
Looking Toward the Future
We didn’t come to Egypt with a sales pitch. We came to listen. GLH has always believed that strong partnerships start with mutual understanding. We came to learn their needs, their housing dynamics, and their cultural priorities. And if our products can help meet those needs, then we’ll be honored to play a part.
Will something come from all of this? Time will tell. But right now, we’re grateful for the conversations, the hospitality, and the chance to imagine what a collaboration between American craftsmanship and Egyptian innovation could look like.
What we do know is this…high-quality wood products have the potential to impact communities around the world, and Egypt just might be the next chapter in that story.
